mapnik-utils software package provides C++/Python toolkit for developing GIS applications (utilities), you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install mapnik-utils
mapnik-utils is installed in your system.
Make ensure the mapnik-utils package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep mapnik-utils *
You will get with mapnik-utils package name, version, architecture and description in a table
